The New York City Department of Education's Summer Design Institute, taking place at The High School of Art & Design and sponsored by the CTE Office and Warne Bros. Discovery, will invite 80 NYC public high school students to participate in a 5-week Media Design workplace challenge to learn the art & craft of Multicultural Marketing alongside talented CTE Teachers and diverse creatives from HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery, with the goal of producing high-concept and impactful marketing campaigns for HBO Max original content, through an interactive design thinking approach.

PROGRAM DETAILS:
Location: The High School of Art & Design, 245 East 56th Street, NYC
Dates: July 6th, 2025 - August 7th, 2026
Days: Monday - Friday
Times: 10 am - 2 pm

Open to all NYCDOE High School Students and Graduating Seniors.
WORKPLACE CHALLENGE STIPEND AMOUNT: $575.00

Students must submit the following:

Art Detectives is a FREE program for NYC high school students at the Guggenheim that provides a unique opportunity to study with a variety of museum conservators and scientists working in the fields of art conservation and cultural heritage science.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a stipend of $850. During the program, students will receive supplies, snacks, and Omny cards. The Art Detectives Program will run from July 6-23, 2026, Mondays-Thursdays from 1 pm - 5 pm.
Art Detectives program is open to all NYC high schoolers currently in 10th and 11th grade.

Applications are due by April 30th at 5 pm

The students got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the creative minds who design, dress, and maintain the iconic costumes for Broadway shows. As the cherry on top, they were treated to a thrilling backstage tour of Moulin Rouge! at the Al Hirshfeld Theater—an immersive journey into the heart of Broadway’s magic!"

BUILD is a premier eight- week Economics initiative that transforms students into entrepreneurs. Working in collaborative teams, seniors are challenged to identify real-world problems and engineer innovative, market ready solutions. This intensive project culminates in a high-stakes "Shark Tank" style pitch session. This year, our top four finalist teams competed before the entire senior class for a prestigious $1,000 grand prize, demonstrating the intersection of economic theory and creative professional practice.

Just want to give a big thank you to everyone who donated warm weather clothing and underwear. We completed a pickup last weekend and collected over 17 bags, all of which were delivered to St. Mary’s to support those in need.

It was a huge success, and our community came together like it always does to help make the lives of those in need a little bit easier.

Your generosity truly makes a difference. Thank you so much, Art & Design community!

🧵 Ms. Farrelly’s senior Fashion Design class recently visited Pioneer Works in Redhook, Brooklyn for a tour of their exhibit, The Endless Garment, as well as their artist residency spaces. During the visit, students also participated in hands-on textile workshops focused on batik and fabric dyeing, where they explored traditional techniques and experimented with creating their own designs.

From discussing "design equity" to seeing how our students are reimagining the five boroughs, it was a masterclass in how creativity shapes our city.
Our students got a front-row seat to how the city's permanent structures and public art get approved. If you're looking to make your mark on the NYC skyline, this was the talk of the year!

The message was clear: New York City's future is being drawn right here in these classrooms.

Our students went head-to-head for National Pi Day, reciting as many digits as possible for the ultimate prize: Pie-ing a Teacher! Huge congrats to our winners who proved that a sharp memory leads to a very messy victory.

Taking one for the team! 🥧🎨
A massive thank you to our incredible teachers for being such good sports during our Pi Day Recitation Contest. Our students showed off some seriously impressive memory skills, and the reward was... well, see for yourself.

Rest assured, no teachers were harmed in the making of this Pi Day—just a little extra sugary.
