Are you interested in both Chemistry and art?

Art Detectives is a FREE program for NYC high school students at the Guggenheim that provides a unique opportunity to study with a variety of museum conservators and scientists working in the fields of art conservation and cultural heritage science.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a stipend of $850. During the program, students will receive supplies, snacks, and Omny cards. The Art Detectives Program will run from July 6-23, 2026, Mondays-Thursdays from 1 pm - 5 pm.
Art Detectives program is open to all NYC high schoolers currently in 10th and 11th grade.

Applications are due by April 30th at 5 pm

The students got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the creative minds who design, dress, and maintain the iconic costumes for Broadway shows. As the cherry on top, they were treated to a thrilling backstage tour of Moulin Rouge! at the Al Hirshfeld Theater—an immersive journey into the heart of Broadway’s magic!"

BUILD is a premier eight- week Economics initiative that transforms students into entrepreneurs. Working in collaborative teams, seniors are challenged to identify real-world problems and engineer innovative, market ready solutions. This intensive project culminates in a high-stakes "Shark Tank" style pitch session. This year, our top four finalist teams competed before the entire senior class for a prestigious $1,000 grand prize, demonstrating the intersection of economic theory and creative professional practice.

Just want to give a big thank you to everyone who donated warm weather clothing and underwear. We completed a pickup last weekend and collected over 17 bags, all of which were delivered to St. Mary’s to support those in need.

It was a huge success, and our community came together like it always does to help make the lives of those in need a little bit easier.

Your generosity truly makes a difference. Thank you so much, Art & Design community!

🧵 Ms. Farrelly’s senior Fashion Design class recently visited Pioneer Works in Redhook, Brooklyn for a tour of their exhibit, The Endless Garment, as well as their artist residency spaces. During the visit, students also participated in hands-on textile workshops focused on batik and fabric dyeing, where they explored traditional techniques and experimented with creating their own designs.

We were honored to host Sreoshy Banerjea, Executive Director of the NYC Public Design Commission (@nycdesigncommission) at the High School of Art and Design! 🎉📐 CTE Week at the High School of Art and Design 🏫✨ did not miss a beat! The Architecture Department 🏛️ had the privilege of hosting a dynamic lineup of presentations 🎤📊 and a site visit 🚶‍♂️🏗️ that truly elevated the week.

Following a blistering winter weekend ❄️🌬️, the week began with architect Rutger Huiberts from MVRDV, who lit up the Sky Gallery 💡🖼️ with his firm’s adventurous studio work—from single-family homes 🏠 to large-scale public buildings 🏢🌍 across 47 countries. MVRDV’s philosophy, rooted in data-driven design 📊✏️ and human-centered innovation 🤝, addresses 21st-century dilemmas such as climate resilience 🌱🌎 and urban density 🏙️. Their guiding belief—creating “spaces that make you smile” 😊—resonated deeply with our students. From asking, “What happens if the Netherlands ends up underwater?” 🌊🇳🇱 to reimagining typologies for living, working, and playing 🏘️💼🎨, the presentation demonstrated how architecture can revolutionize daily life while prioritizing client and user satisfaction.

Senior Photography students and Photography Teacher Ms. McLaughlin went to the Throckmorton Gallery to view the work by famed Mexican Photographer Graciela Iturbide Asturias and spoke with Director Norberto about her focus, connection to the community she photographed and the importance of having a diverse group of photographers to share an empathetic view when observing life.

Last Tuesday, Mr. Bencsko's students stopped by to give our architecture students some valuable feedback and guidance on poster design. This collaboration was greatly appreciated, and it was wonderful to see how engaged every student was throughout the process. In a school with such diverse skill sets, collaborations like this truly bring out the best in everyone.

Student entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to finetune their elevator pitch as they present to a panel of experts (you!) their personal and professional goals in a group-style setting (think Group Interview and you are the Employer...but less pressure!)

We all know talking about ourselves, our dreams, gifts & talents isn't always easy, but vital for our professional and personal growth. This event is designed to provide our high school seniors with an opportunity to practice just that, while receiving guidance, advice and space for networking.

We are recruiting 30 volunteers for this event and will need volunteers, between 8:00 - 1:30pm.

In the fall, 19 of our seniors participated in a co-design workshop with designers and researchers from Instagram. They learned about the design process, shared feedback on their Instagram experience, and partnered with the Instagram employees to brainstorm creative solutions to key challenges facing teens. These insights can be leveraged for additional research and design thinking while building for teens at Instagram.

In the fall, 19 of our seniors participated in a co-design workshop with designers and researchers from Instagram. They learned about the design process, shared feedback on their Instagram experience, and partnered with the Instagram employees to brainstorm creative solutions to key challenges facing teens. These insights can be leveraged for additional research and design thinking while building for teens at Instagram.
